My NEW Samsung microwave leaks radiation!

I got it from Amazon about 10 days ago.

First of all, I was disappointed with the tacky alignment of the door in relation to the control panel. See pictures below. Anyway, I was willing to live with this. [Please don’t judge my photography skills based on the quality of these photos — I took them in a hurry before putting it back in the box!]

Last night, as I was microwaving something, I spotted a gap and a shaft of yellow light coming from inside the microwave. See the video below. Now, in a perfectly sealed microwave, this should not happen.

I promptly performed the “wireless netbook test” explained on wikihow. Lo and behold, I was able to ping the netbook that was sitting inside the closed microwave! In contrast, when I run this test on my old faithful (albeit badly corroded) Sanyo microwave — bought in Switzerland in 1991 — the ping fails and the microwave passes the test.

I immediately thought this was “Made in India” stuff. According to the label, this one is made in Malaysia!

I did not even attempt the “keys” test — incidentally, my old Sanyo passes that test.

Luckily, because I bought it from Amazon, they have said they’ll send someone over tomorrow to pick it up. Had I got it from the brick-and-mortar dealer, I might have been told that the microwave was perfectly good!

Will I buy another Samsung microwave? No. Will I buy it on Amazon? Yes — at least I can return it if I have trouble.

If more and more people were to protest in this way, consumer goods companies may desist from dumping substandard goods on unsuspedcting customers.
